I'm not sure what I was expecting when I committed to the Hungarian Divide (half). Judging from the stats on the website, 700 kms 14,000 metres, I knew this wasn't going to be easy. I think I checked that website every week for 4 months before I actually registered. I was full of doubt, so many questions not to mention I knew nothing about the country other than my best friend and her family were living there now and I was obliged to do my aunty duties to visit.
I found the Hungarian Divide after typing "Bikepacking Hungary" into google. It seemed to be the bikepacking event of the year in Hungary and the best part was the dates lined up exactly with when I would be there. It was a sign. I joined all the facebook groups that were related to the ride. I asked the group a million questions about water, food, shelter, hiring bikes, bike repairs and found the community to be super helpful and encouraging.
